ARVADA, COLORADO FAMILY SURPRISED WITH MUCH-NEEDED FREE HOME ENERGY MAKEOVER!
Lakewood, Colorado, October 28, 2009
With a drafty upstairs and high energy and medical bills, the Lindemann family of Arvada, Colo., had their wish come true. They are the winner of the 2009 Home Energy Makeover Contest sponsored by Smart Energy Living Alliance®, Xcel Energy, Appliance Factory Outlet, Big Al's Insulating, The Blind Spot, Champion Windows, Champion Windows, Cooper Heating and Cooling, Ductworks, Energy Logic, Hunter Douglas, Lennox, Mountain Air Comfort Systems, Norseman Construction, Rinnai and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
The Energy Patrol knocked on the Lindemann's door Monday night with balloons in hand and a big sign reading "2009 Energy Makeover Winner." Family and friends began cheering even
before the knock, having gathered in hopes they would win. Despite the children learning to use less water, turn off lights and close doors, they still face high energy bills. Fighting back tears, Andi-Rose Lindemann said, "We could never make these energy efficiency improvements if we hadn't won."
The Lindemann's home was selected from thousands of entries in this year's Home Energy
Makeover Contest. Improvements will lower energy use, save money and make the house
more comfortable throughout the year. The sponsors will seal air leaks to reduce air infiltration, install insulation; clean air ducts, and replace the family's furnace and air conditioner, tankless
hot water heater, and washer/dryer or refrigerator with new energy efficient appliances. New
energy saving windows and window coverings will also be installed.
The contest was first launched in 2004, bringing in over 50,000 applications since. Past winners have seen their energy costs reduced by as much as 40 percent in the months following the makeover. All applicants receive information on saving energy and money. Although the other finalists were certainly disappointed, they took it in stride with one sharing best wishes with the winning family and another saying, "there's always next year."
